Before you start
Make sure you are a Train My Camera team owner or admin, then have these Square details ready.
- Your Square seller login.
- A Square Catalog with the items or variations you want staff to recognize.
- A Train My Camera team where you are an owner or admin.
Step-by-step setup
- Open Checkout sync. In Train My Camera, switch to the right team, open Manage, then choose Checkout sync.
- Choose Square. Select Square from the provider list and click Connect Square.
- Approve access. Sign in to Square when asked and approve read-only catalog, merchant profile, and inventory access.
- Review products. Back in Train My Camera, click Review products. This reads Square Catalog items before changing the Train My Camera catalog.
- Choose scope. Select all Square catalog items, selected categories, or individual item variations. The selected active count is checked against your Train My Camera item limit before sync.
- Choose image handling. Decide whether Square catalog images should be prepared as Train My Camera example photos.
- Save and sync. Click Save setup and sync now. Later manual syncs and automatic sync use the saved selection.
Provider facts used by this connector
- Train My Camera requests ITEMS_READ, MERCHANT_PROFILE_READ, and INVENTORY_READ.
- The connector uses GET /v2/merchants/me and GET /v2/catalog/list?types=ITEM,CATEGORY,IMAGE with cursor pagination.
- Each Square item variation maps to a synced Train My Camera item.
- Square Catalog ITEM.id and ITEM_VARIATION.id remain the sync identity.
What syncs
Train My Camera imports the fields that exist in your Square catalog. Empty fields stay empty in Train My Camera.
| Train My Camera field | Square source |
|---|---|
| Name | Catalog item name plus item variation name. |
| Category | Category ID and category name. |
| Display price | Variation price_money. |
| SKU | Variation SKU. |
| Barcode | Variation UPC barcode field. |
| Provider identity | Square item ID and item variation ID. |
| Image | Linked Square Catalog IMAGE URL where available. |
| Inventory context | Inventory read scope is available for stock-aware sync context. |
| Sizes and variants | Sizes group under one Train My Camera item with a size picker when the provider exposes size-level data. Size options do not count against the item limit. |
Read-only reassurance
Train My Camera never writes to Square. Product names, prices, SKUs, barcodes, categories, images, inventory, orders, and checkout settings stay owned by your POS. Edit those details in Square, then run Sync now or leave automatic sync enabled for the saved selection.
Troubleshooting
Square authorization fails
Retry from Manage -> Checkout sync -> Square and make sure you are signing in with the seller account that owns the catalog.
The catalog preview is empty
Confirm the connected Square account has Catalog items and variations. Train My Camera syncs item variations rather than orders or checkout activity.
Categories do not look right
Square categories come from Catalog category objects linked to items. Check the item category in Square, then run Review products again.
Some products have no barcode
Train My Camera imports the variation UPC when Square provides one. Items without UPC values in Square simply show no barcode.
